The situation has become so grave that over the past five years the provincial Forests and Lands Ministry has relocated 73 and authorized the shooting of 39 barred owls. According to reporters, the barred owl is majorly responsible for the fast disappearance of spotted owl. It is crucial to note that the Northern spotted owls have been faced with extinction since the 1980s, and now there are only 10 of these birds remaining in the wilds of southwestern British Columbia. In the1960s, barred Owls have been expanding their range westward from the eastern United States because man-made changes have created new suitable habitat in the west. Hence, the barred owl invaded the territory of the spotted owls who lost their habitats. Biologists have advanced that barred owls tend to be larger and more aggressive than spotted owls...
