Following an introduction, the work covers three chronological periods for Greek minting (the Archaic, Classical and Hellenistic periods), examines the various geographies associated with Greek minting in these periods of time, and sketches out the important lines of development in order to place coins in their proper historical context in preparation for interpretation. This works compares Greek minting with coin production from non-Greek political entities such as the Persians and Carthaginians and a chapter that examines the influence of Greek cities on the Roman state rounds out the volume. German description: Dieser Band behandelt zunachst methodische Grundlagen, die es dem Leser ermoglichen, griechische Munzen als Quellengattung zu erschlieaen und die einschlagige Literatur zu nutzen. Nach Uberlegungen zum Beginn der Munzpragung werden in drei chronologischen Abschnitten (Archaik, Klassik, Hellenismus), die jeweils geographisch gegliedert sind, sowohl die groaen Entwicklungslinien nachgezeichnet als auch einzelne herausragende Munzen in ihren jeweiligen historischen Kontext eingeordnet und interpretiert. Dabei wird auch die Munzpragung nicht-griechischer politischer Einheiten (etwa Perser und Karthager) berucksichtigt.
