Cornelia Funke nación en la localidad alemana de Dorsten en 1958. Curso sus estudios superiores de pedagogía e ilustración y pronto, comenzaría a trabajar como ilustradora de libros y a redactar escritos para un público más joven.

Es la autora de más de 40 libros que han sido traducidos a 30 idiomas y numerosos guiones de televisión. Uno de los guiones que han sido llevados al cine ha sido Corazón de Tinta. Ya en 2025 le llegó el reconocimiento por parte de la revista Time como una de las cien personas más influyentes del mundo.

Sus libros han recibido numerosos premios como el BookSense, Book of the Year Children´s Literature, EE. UU. 2006; Pizarrin de plata, premio holandés para literatura infantil 2006 o el mejor libro del año 2005 en los Disney Adventures Book Awards por Sangre de Tinta.
