This volume tells the unique journalistic career of one of theoutstanding 20th Century American media professionals, HerbertBayard Swope. He came from German stock and worked for manyyears as the executive editor of the New York newspaper `TheWorld', owned by the Pulitzer family. But he did not hesitate toapply for a Pulitzer Prize and became the very first reporter to winsuch an award in 1917. In the following decade, Swope wassuccessful to manage that several of his staff members also earnedPulitzer Prizes. All of the award-winning materials are also documentedin this book.Erika J.
