Reseña del libro "Blood and Salt (en Inglés)"

In February 1846, the peasants of western Galicia rose against their own lords with flails, pitchforks, and axes - and within days, nearly ninety percent of the region's noble estates lay in ruins. At the center of the storm stood Jakub Szela, a maimed wheelwright who had spent three decades fighting one family, the Boguszes, through Habsburg courts before finally leading the mob that destroyed them. This is the story of the Galician Rabacja: a Polish nationalist uprising that never had a chance, because the empire it opposed had already turned the peasantry into an instrument of its own defense. Drawing on court records, survivor testimony, and the tangled folklore that followed, this book traces the collision between a szlachta convinced its serfs would die for Polish liberty, and a peasantry that had learned, through generations of hunger and abuse, to trust the distant Emperor over the lord next door. What emerges is a story of famine, betrayal, and calculated cruelty on every side - and a reckoning with how easily nationalism collapses when it is built on the unexamined assumption that the poor will fight for a flag before they fight for bread. A gripping, unflinching account of one of Europe's most devastating and most forgotten peasant uprisings.
