Maggie O’Farrell (1972 en Coleraine, Irlanda del Norte), creció en Gales y Escocia tras mudarse con su familia a los dos años de edad. A los ocho años, sufrió una grave encefalitis que la mantuvo hospitalizada y alejada de la escuela por más de un año, experiencia que influyó profundamente en su vida y obra. Estudió Literatura Inglesa en Cambridge y trabajó como periodista en Hong Kong y Londres antes de dedicarse plenamente a la escritura. Actualmente reside en Edimburgo.

Su obra se caracteriza por la profundidad psicológica de sus personajes y la narrativa original. Entre sus novelas más conocidas destacan, After You’d Gone (2000), su debut literario, ganadora del premio Betty Trask; La primera mano que sostuvo la mía (The Hand That First Held Mine, 2010), galardonada con el premio Costa de novela y Hamnet (2020), bestseller internacional y ganadora del Women’s Prize for Fiction y el National Book Critics Circle Award, que ficcionaliza la vida de la familia de William Shakespeare.

Su trabajo ha sido traducido a más de 30 idiomas y ha recibido numerosos reconocimientos internacionales.
