Novelista, ensayista y poeta estadounidense, Barbara Kingsolver nació en Annapolis, Maryland, el 8 de abril de 1955. Creció en Kentucky y pasó un breve período de tiempo en el Congo durante su infancia.

Kingsolver estudió Biología en la DePauw University y en la Universidad de Arizona. Más adelante comenzó a trabajar como escritora autónoma antes de dedicarse a escribir novelas. En el año 2000 creó el Bellwether Prize con el objetivo de impulsar la literatura a favor del cambio social.

En lo literario, ha escrito acerca de justicia social, biodiversidad y la relación entre las personas y su entorno. Entre su producción se cuentan títulos como La Biblia envenenada, Laguna (Premio de Ficción Femenina 2010) y Demon Copperhead (Premio Pulitzer 2023 junto a Fortuna de Hernán Díaz y Premio de Ficción Femenina 2023).
