Gordy and Isabelle are two long-married forty-year-olds who join a twenty-year university reunion group for a tour of Italy, organised by a charismatic but unusual Italian, Con. A pair of strangers joins the group: a beautiful but mysterious young women, Rachael, and drunken, slovenly middle-aged man, Harry. The two are immediately at each other's throats. As the group moves through the picturesque Tuscan countryside, Rachael suddenly disappears, leaving a note saying she'd returned to Australia. Her departure leaves many members of the group suspicious. One night in Caserta, Gordy spies Rachael outside a restaurant. She claims she left the group because she was afraid for her life. She will say no more, but asks Gordy to keep their conversation secret, 'for fear of his own life.' Gordy is immediately suspicious of Harry, but when Harry's mate Walter joins the group in place of Rachael, Gordy's fears are exacerbated. Walter appears to be just as shifty and shady as Harry. Gordy does a little detective work of his own and makes some frightening and alarming discoveries about other members of the group, including the group leader, Con. When one of the group members is brutally murdered, suspicion is cast on everybody as the story twists and turns at every corner of the narrow, winding Tuscan roadways
