Jim Hall’s legendary career started in 1943 when he joined the Army at the age of 17. By the War’s end, he had flown a combat tour in B-29s and received a battle field commission. His incredible career began, and almost ended, in the skies above Sonora, Mexico in 1949.
He was awarded a direct commission in the United States Air Force and distinguished himself as an expert in jumping out of perfectly good airplanes. He was a key developer of the parachuting program at the USAF Academy and
has participated in thousands of jumps. At Edwards Air Force, he created the Buddy System that was integrated throughout the military.
Jim Hall was an advocate for safety. As a parachute safety instructor and in the Air Force Reserve, he volunteered to act as the first human guinea pig for the "0-0" (zero-zero) ejection seat. To date, he is the only person to achieve this.
