Dr. Sotiria Theoharis is Greek American born in San Jose, CA and residing in Chalkida, Greece. She began her study into medicine with a psycho-biology and literature background at UCSC. She moved into the social sciences in particular sociology with interests in history and philosophy, at Durham University. Then she studied Sociology for a doctorate at UCSF. This book shows breast cancer care historically and ethnographically to address four questions: (1) how breast care structures and normalizes the of actions medical scientists, care providers, and women, (2) how medical scientists make breast cancer facts, (3) how medical paradigms habituate in institutions, are practiced by/ bolster professionals, and lived by the experience of the women affected by this disease, (4) what are the parameters of women's participation.
