Reseña del libro "Mechanical Component Design & Selection Handbook: A Modern Sourcebook for Sizing, Reliability, and Practical Engineering Applications (en Inglés)"

Given a load, a duty cycle, and a real set of constraints, which mechanical component actually belongs in this design — and how is it sized? Most references answer only half of that question. A fastener handbook or a bearing catalog gives you sizing data for one component family and stops there. A machine-design textbook derives the underlying physics in careful detail but often leaves the actual selection decision to you. This handbook is organized the other way around. Twenty chapters, each covering one mechanical component family end to end, so the same design logic and level of practical detail carries across every one — and any single chapter can be read standalone whenever that component family is the one you need today. Inside, you'll Classify a load as static, cyclic, or impact, and choose the correct failure theory and factor of safety to match it Run fatigue and life-prediction calculations using the Marin equation and Goodman/Gerber/Soderberg mean-stress corrections, and apply tolerancing, fits, and GD&T with real stack-up analysis Size threaded fasteners for preload and fatigue, welded and adhesive joints, and a rotating shaft under combined bending and torsion checked against critical speed Select and size gears (Lewis equation), belt and chain drives, clutches and brakes, rolling-element bearings (L10 life), and plain bearings (PV limit) Design springs (Wahl-factor-corrected stress), seals and O-rings, linear guides and ball/lead screws, pressure vessels and piping, and structural weldment frames — closing with vibration isolation and reliability calculations Every worked example runs in US customary units first, with SI equivalents alongside. Every chapter includes a "Mistake Autopsy" built around one specific, plausible way that component actually fails in practice, a "Field Capstone" that pulls several of the chapter's ideas together the way a real assignment would, and practice problems with worked answers you can check your own calculation against. Nine appendices — fastener tables, material properties, bearing life data, standard fits, spring charts, unit conversions, a safety-factor quick-reference, a master formula sheet, and a glossary — keep you from hunting back through a chapter mid-calculation. This is a reference built for the moment an engineer needs to move from "which component" to "sized, specified, and documented," and for a student who wants worked, verified problems to check their own work against.
