Paradise Lost. Paradise Found. Paradise Coming Again. When each of these concepts is explained now to the average "man on the Clapham Omnibus", he would, I suspect, laugh at it, because truths of yesterday are considered no longer applicable or relevant today. This is strange, is it not, when they worked for millennia and none of the scriptural concepts have ever been proved erroneous.
This book encourages a serious reconsideration of these old Bible ideas, and examines the "latest is best" philosophy of today. Very few question our progressive or woke type values, and hardly anyone queries the idea, for example, of evolution and why traditional values were dumped only recently. Yet Darwin himself probably half believed Genesis and biblical ideas as a young man, and almost joined the clergy before he absorbed his own later Godless and sceptical ideas. He even took John Milton's Paradise Lost with him when he boarded the HMS Beagle before his historic voyage; it was a survey ship for the Navy, and he was a self-financing naturalist on it.
So yes, famous and successful poems were written on the above themes long before disbelief took hold, and this book touches on them as an introduction to the works for an age that has wrongly dismissed the concepts and indeed explores the old Bible revelation itself (which is where we got the ideas from in the first place). And whether the old Bible has any relevance to life is discussed here too, from a believer's perspective. We all yearn for paradise, don't we. Is it a realistic belief today?
