$ 2.539‘Psychoanalytic Spaces and the Anatomy of Home’ analyses what a sense of feeling at ‘home’ is and how it can be achieved in relation to Wright’s suggestion of a safe-enough ‘Home-object’.
There has been a new emphasis on ‘home’ and how we inhabit it, since the Covid pandemic, where home and garden spaces have been adapted and renovated to make home-working spaces. Wright presents a psychoanalytic and psychosocial exploration of ‘home’, beginning with the earliest homes in the Neolithic period. Historically the home has been experienced as a ‘being’ or protected with aspects of human bodies. Wright suggests that building and aesthetically creating, decorating, furnishing and accessorising the home can be a part of a building and developing of the self, alongside the therapeutic process and ‘homely’ aspects that Freud created in the first psychoanalytic consulting room which are explored.
Psychoanalytic Spaces and the Anatomy of Home will be of great interest to psychotherapists and psychoanalytic theorists, as well as academics and scholars of home studies, interior design and architecture, literature, philosophy, social work, archaeology, anthropology, and history.
