As a work of literature from the time of the Second Temple Period, the "Book of Proverbs" was shaped by the theological debates of that time, such as the meaning of the Torah and the laws of Deuteronomy, or the practical way humans live according to the will of God. In considering ancient Near Eastern parallels, the textual materials can be analyzed in new and productive ways not previously considered, such as the relationship to the wisdom literature of the Egyptian New Kingdom and late period, but at the same time, the text also shows itself in its final form as a work from the late-Persian and early Hellenistic period, produced by scholars who were deeply steeped in the writing of ancient Israel. German description: Bernd U. Schipper liest das Spruchebuch im Kontext der altorientalischen Weisheitsliteratur und zugleich als genuinen Bestandteil des Alten Testaments. Als Literaturwerk aus der Zeit des zweiten Tempels hat das Spruchebuch Anteil an den theologischen Debatten der Zeit, sei es die Bedeutung der Tora und speziell des deuteronomischen Gesetzes, oder der Frage, ob der Mensch in der Lage dazu ist, gemass dem gottlichen Willen zu leben. Bei der Analyse altorientalischer Parallelen wird besonders Textmaterial berucksichtigt, das bislang noch nicht fur die Auslegung fruchtbar gemacht wurde: die Weisheitstexte aus der agyptischen Spatzeit (6.-2. Jh. v.Chr.). Insgesamt erweist sich das Spruchebuch in seiner Endgestalt als eine Schrift aus spatpersischer-fruhhellenistischer Zeit, die einem Kreis von Schriftgelehrten zugeordnet werden kann, der in den Schriften Altisraels ausgebildet war.
