I have worked in several healthcare systems in medicine for 37 years, and in psychiatry since I started my residency in 1986, and over the past 25 years I have seen a gradual deterioration in the connection between providers and patients/clients. This deterioration is not specific to any one provider or system, but has occurred as a general change in attitude and values over most of healthcare. If you have seen and felt this happening in your life, please read this book. Even if you haven't, it is vital that everyone understand what is happening in healthcare, as if we don't shift the trends, it almost certainly will get worse.This book is really about you. I've tried to avoid quoting a lot of statistics, research citations, and references, but have focused on the things you don't see when you walk into a providers office, what you will be dealing with, and what you can do to change your visit.
