Two young women: Annie, who has spent the last two years as a prostitute, sinking into addiction, and Sister Beatrice, a novice at St Joseph’s Convent in the city. Beatrice is asked by her Mother Superior to persuade Annie to come to the convent so that she can be freed of her addiction and set on a better course of life. It is a task that Beatrice at first resents. But as she and we learn more about Annie’s past, her lack of self-worth and what lies behind it, a profound respect grows. Beatrice is young and naïve and Annie wants to protect her from the danger that arises in the very heart of the convent. The bonds between the two young women grow, strengthening as Annie learns more about herself and her need for forgiveness and Beatrice begins to understand the sacrifices she must make if she is to stay as a nun. Can she face the future and can Annie come to terms with the dark secrets of her past?
