Es célebre por su monumental obra En busca del tiempo perdido (À la recherche du temps perdu), una serie de siete volúmenes publicados entre 1913 y 1927, que exploran la memoria, el arte y la sociedad francesa de su época. Proust ganó el prestigioso Premio Goncourt en 1919 por el segundo volumen de la saga, A la sombra de las muchachas en flor.
